Bentley S3 Continental,
1965,#BC12XD

As per factory documents six 2-Door Saloon bodies to this design by
James Young were mounted on chassis Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III whereas
reportedly only ONE had been built on Bentley S3 Continental chassis.
That at least hitherto had commonly been "standard of knowledge".
Erroneous information found in some literature has been "James Young had
used the same design number SCV100 for 4-Door and for 2-Door
creations". That was incorrect however because the coachbuilder
listed separate design numbers as hereunder: SCV100 - 4-Door Saloon
to this design on Silver Cloud III CV100 -
4-Door Saloon to this design on S3 SCV150 - 2-Door Saloon to this
design on Silver Cloud III CV150 - 2-Door Saloon to this design on
S3.
At least today can be stated that James Young certainly built more than
one Bentley S3 Continental 2-Door Saloon to their design CV150. The car
that previously was believed to be a “unique” Bentley S3 Continental
James Young 2-Door Saloon had been #BC76XC, delivered in 1964 to a
certain Mr. Appenzeller (Switzerland). This car later found its way to
the USA and not too long ago has been in the trade.
However James Young erected a 2nd body to this design on
chassis #BC12XD. The ‘Chassis Card Details’, i.e. the factory documents,
were not up-dated though. Thus the incorrect information lived on of
#BC12XD having been fitted with 4-Door Saloon coachwork by James Young.
The error might have rooted e.g. from a pre-production option of a
4-door salon to be mounted? Indeed from the very start the car was made
as a 2-Door Saloon.
